.. Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD) was initially begin as a way to mitigate climate change and to compensate tropical countries that are willing, and able to reduce emissions from deforestation ! There is now also REDD+ - the international mechanism negotiated at the COP meetings which not yet exist
